Health, Performance and Confidence

Health:

If we are aligned our body has a central axis around which functions and movement are organised.

- The body weight is supported in the most efficient way, without strain;

- The body expands into its full space which helps organs to work freely,

i.e. the stomach digesting and the lungs breathing.

- A well aligned axis gives a good central balance and allows movement to happen with minimum strain.

- Living with less tension and stress guards against many health issues. It is a good starting point for a healthy body.

Good Performance :

Alexander Technique is now a recognised part of training in the performing arts. It is part of the curriculum of most major schools of music, dance and theatre.

Whether practising sport, working at the computer, doing house work, or having an important meeting, our ability to function well has a major impact on all that we do.

- To be relaxed and well balanced.

- To be more aware of how you are and more comfortable in your body.

- To be better related to your tool or instrument, or to the person in front of you.

How to build Confidence:

- Being at ease in the body supports our state of mind and feeling.

We all grow up with our own habits of posture and movement which might leave us lacking in confidence.

For example, feeling tense or uncomfortable in movement, or depressed and heavy in the body.

These things show themselves physically and can also be triggered by negative habits. In other words, if we change how the body is we will be more in charge of our state of mind and feeling.

With body language I am constantly sending signals out to the world, whether it is calm and balanced, fearful or uneasy.
The difference is knowing that change is possible.

Confidence can be gained by being able to move into alignment.
